The
Orange River through Richtersveld mountains
The Richtersveld Excursion is a totally unique Orange River trip. It is more than just another river experience - it's a floating holiday through the only mountainous desert in the world. The Orange River runs through the spectacular Richtersveld and borders the Richtersveld National Park. Days are sunny, but scorching from November till April. Winter nights can be chilly and warmer clothes are advisable. Come prepared. The annual 10mm of rain might even surprise us! A definite must........ Base Camp: 120km north of Springbok is the border town of Vioolsdrift. At the S.A. border post, you turn west onto a gravel road that runs adjacent to the river. Ten kilometres further, you are at your base camp. (Map will be provided). A total of 690km from Cape Town and 1405km from Gauteng. Your base camp offers you a large welcoming boma, running water, flush toilets and showers, but bring your own bedding for the entire trip. The overnight camp spots next to the riverbank have no camping facilities. We
will make camp as we progress. |
